TikTok Shop affiliate program requirements, commission rates and how TikTok affiliate marketing actually pays

Most pages about this program repeat the same follower number and the same commission range without checking either. What follows is drawn from TikTok own Seller University documentation, with the parts that are not official clearly labelled, because on this program the gap between what TikTok publishes and what gets repeated is wide enough to change whether you apply at all.

The short answer

The TikTok Shop affiliate program lets US creators tag products in videos, LIVEs and shareable links and earn commission when someone buys. TikTok own creator eligibility page states the bar for affiliate creators is at least 1,000 followers, 18 or over, based in the United States, in good standing, with no prior record of having e-commerce permissions revoked. The 5,000 follower figure repeated in nearly every guide is real but it is the graduation line out of the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program, not the entry gate. Inside that pilot you are capped at 3 shoppable videos per day and 3 shoppable LIVE streams per week, and you leave it by holding 5,000 followers, staying at least 30 days, keeping a Creator Health Rating of at least 176 points and completing one qualifying task. Commission is set by the seller, calculated as revenue minus refunds times the rate, and paid roughly 15 days after the order is delivered, longer if that seller settlement period is longer. One structural limit matters more than any of the numbers: TikTok Shop prohibits virtual and digital products unless a seller is approved for its invite-only Virtual Goods category, so software, AI tools and subscriptions cannot be tagged the way a physical product can.

at a glance

TikTok Shop affiliate program at a glance: what TikTok actually publishes

Official means TikTok states it on its own seller or creator pages. Reported means it comes from creators, tooling vendors or coverage that TikTok has not confirmed in writing. Everything here was re-checked on 20 August 2026. The split matters, because the single most repeated fact about this program is stated in the wrong place by almost everyone.

What you are checking The short answer The detail, and whether TikTok publishes it
Follower requirement to join 1,000, not 5,000 OFFICIAL, and the most consequential correction on this page. TikTok creator eligibility page states affiliate creators need at least 1,000 followers. The 5,000 number every guide leads with is the threshold to graduate out of the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program into full marketplace access. Those are different milestones and treating the second as the first talks thousands of eligible US creators out of applying.
Age and location 18 or over, US based OFFICIAL. You must be at least 18 years old and based in the United States to bind as a TikTok Shop creator in the US program. There is no route around this for a US shop from outside the country, and the tax information you supply when you set up a commission account is checked against it.
Account standing Clean record required OFFICIAL. You must comply with the TikTok Shop Content Policy, TikTok Community Guidelines, the Creator Code of Conduct and all other TikTok Shop policies, and you must have no prior record of having e-commerce permissions revoked by TikTok Shop. A previous revocation is the one disqualifier that a follower count cannot fix.
The Pilot Program Capped, not blocked OFFICIAL. Creators who have not yet met the 5,000 follower bar enter the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program and can start earning immediately with limits: 3 shoppable videos per day and 3 LIVE selling streams per week. Creators placed in the Extended Pilot after a policy violation are cut to 3 shoppable videos per week and 1 shoppable LIVE per week. Secondary write-ups quoting a 10 video daily cap are wrong.
How you graduate 30 days, 5,000 followers, 176 points OFFICIAL and almost never published elsewhere. To leave the pilot you need at least 30 days in the program, 5,000 followers, a Creator Health Rating of at least 176 points, and one of: at least 6 shoppable videos of 8 seconds or longer, at least one livestream of 5 minutes or longer promoting products, or 10 orders generated from shoppable content. Then you pass a quiz and get full access to TikTok Shop.
Commission rate Seller sets it The rate is set per product by the seller, not by TikTok. TikTok Seller Center is REPORTED to allow anything from 1% to 80%. In practice most everyday categories sit around 10% to 20%, with beauty and supplements at the top and electronics near the bottom, and the effective US average is REPORTED at roughly 13%. Targeted Collaborations, where a seller invites you specifically, are where the higher custom rates live.
How commission is calculated Revenue minus refunds OFFICIAL. TikTok states the formula as commission equals revenue minus refunds, multiplied by the commission rate, on the price the customer actually paid. You see an estimated commission the moment an order is placed and it is trued up once returns resolve. A partial refund reduces the commission proportionally and a full refund takes it to zero, which is why a strong week can shrink two weeks later.
When you get paid About 15 days after delivery OFFICIAL. TikTok states that for orders created after 15 April 2025 commission is typically paid on the 15th day after delivery. That clock is tied to the seller settlement period, so if a seller settles at delivery plus 31 days, you are paid 31 days after delivery too. Disputes, refunds and return requests must be resolved before anything releases.
Getting the money out Separate commission account OFFICIAL. Earnings sit in a commission account you set up separately with tax information before you can withdraw. Local product commissions are REPORTED to be withdrawable at any time, while cross-border commissions are REPORTED to auto-withdraw weekly on Wednesdays. Treat the second pair as unconfirmed and check your own dashboard.
Software, SaaS and digital products Prohibited by default OFFICIAL and structural. The TikTok Shop Prohibited Products Policy states that virtual or digital products are prohibited unless approved for sale under the Virtual Goods category, with physical items such as DVDs carrying digital content still permitted. Access to sell Virtual Goods is REPORTED to be invite-only, and recurring auto-billing subscriptions are REPORTED as not permitted at all.
Affiliate links to outside programs Allowed, and unrestricted Nothing in the TikTok Shop program stops you running ordinary affiliate links from Amazon Associates, Impact, PartnerStack or a brand direct program alongside it. Those links live in your bio destination rather than in a shoppable tag, they carry no follower minimum, and they are the only route for anything TikTok Shop does not stock. FTC disclosure applies to both routes identically.
Who it suits Physical product creators If you review beauty, home, kitchen, fashion or gadgets, the native program is genuinely strong: the checkout happens inside the app, the friction is close to zero, and the algorithm actively distributes shoppable content. If your audience asks you which AI writing tool or analytics platform to pay for, the catalog does not contain your answer and the commission model does not fit a subscription.

before you apply

What to work out before you sign up as a TikTok Shop affiliate

01

Check the follower number that was actually addressed to you

This is where most creators lose months. TikTok publishes 1,000 followers as the requirement for affiliate creators in the US and 5,000 as the point at which you graduate from the pilot to full marketplace access, and virtually every third party guide compresses those into a single 5,000 requirement. If you are sitting between 1,000 and 5,000 followers you are eligible right now, with caps, and the caps are generous enough that almost nobody at that follower level hits them. Three shoppable videos a day is more shoppable content than a creator in that range would normally post anyway. Apply, start earning, and let the graduation criteria take care of themselves.

02

Understand that the seller controls your rate, and it can change

Unlike a network that publishes a rate card, TikTok Shop hands rate setting to each seller. Two products in the same category can pay 8% and 28%, and a rate can be adjusted going forward. That has two consequences worth planning around. First, the category averages you read are descriptive, not a floor you can rely on, so check the rate on the specific product before you build a video around it. Second, the real money in this program tends to come from Targeted Collaborations, where a seller invites you and negotiates a custom rate, rather than from picking products out of the open marketplace at whatever the default is.

03

Price in the settlement delay before you count the income

Commission is not paid when the sale happens. TikTok pays about 15 days after the order is delivered, and that stretches to match the seller own settlement period, which can be 31 days or more after delivery. Add shipping time to that and a sale made today is realistically money in your account somewhere between three and eight weeks later, assuming no return. Because a full refund zeroes the commission entirely and a partial refund reduces it proportionally, the estimated figure in your dashboard is a forecast rather than a balance. Creators who treat estimated commission as earned income get caught out in categories with high return rates, which in practice means apparel.

04

Decide what happens to the recommendations TikTok cannot carry

This is the part the program cannot solve for you and it is worth confronting before you build your whole monetization around it. TikTok Shop prohibits virtual and digital products outside an invite-only category, so the software you use, the AI tools you demo, the subscriptions your audience asks about, none of that can be tagged as a shoppable product. If those are an occasional aside in your content, ignore this. If they are a meaningful share of what you get asked about, you need a second destination that holds them, because the highest intent question a viewer ever asks you is which tool you use, and the native program has no way to answer it.

05

Treat the Creator Health Rating as a real constraint, not a formality

The 176 point minimum is an official graduation requirement and it is tied to your conduct inside TikTok Shop rather than to your general TikTok account. Content policy violations on shoppable posts, misleading product claims, missing disclosures and complaints all feed into standing, and a policy violation can move you into the Extended Pilot, which cuts you from 3 shoppable videos per day to 3 per week. That is a serious throttle on income and it is imposed for exactly the behaviours that a creator chasing a quick commission is most tempted by. Accurate claims and clear disclosure are not just legal hygiene here, they protect your posting capacity.

how to join

How to become a TikTok Shop affiliate, step by step

1

Confirm you clear the four official gates

Before you touch the application, check the four things TikTok actually states: at least 1,000 followers, at least 18 years old, based in the United States, and no prior record of having e-commerce permissions revoked by TikTok Shop. That last one is the only unfixable disqualifier. If a previous shop or affiliate permission was removed from an account you control, a new follower count will not restore eligibility. Also make sure your account is public and posting, because a dormant account with the right numbers still reads as a poor bet to a reviewer.

2

Apply through the Affiliate Creator route in the app

The affiliate signup lives in the TikTok app under the creator tools rather than in the seller centre, and it binds your existing account rather than creating a new one. Have your legal name and tax details ready, because you will be asked to set up a separate commission account with tax information before any earnings can be withdrawn. If you are under 5,000 followers, expect placement in the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program rather than a rejection. That is the intended path, not a consolation prize.

3

Work inside the pilot caps deliberately

Three shoppable videos a day and three shoppable LIVEs a week is your budget, and the constraint is useful. Rather than tagging every product you can find, pick items with rates you have actually checked and a genuine fit with what your audience already watches you for. The graduation task list rewards this anyway: six shoppable videos of at least 8 seconds, or one livestream of at least 5 minutes promoting products, or 10 orders from shoppable content. Ten orders is the most achievable of the three for a small account, and it comes from one product that genuinely lands rather than from volume.

4

Chase Targeted Collaborations rather than open marketplace defaults

Open Collaboration means any eligible creator can promote a product at the seller default rate. Targeted Collaboration means a seller invited you and can offer a custom rate. The second is where the meaningful money is, and sellers find you through the performance data attached to your shoppable content, so the early videos you post at ordinary rates are effectively your pitch deck. Once you have a product that converted well, that specific result is the thing to reference when a brand approaches or when you approach one.

5

Give the rest of your recommendations a permanent home

The native shelf covers physical goods you tag in a specific video, and that video is gone from your feed in a week. Everything else you recommend, the software, the AI tools, the gear from brands not on TikTok Shop, the direct brand deals you sourced yourself, still needs one page your bio can point at, kept current and disclosed properly. That page is also what survives if your standing changes, if a product is delisted, or if you decide the pilot caps are not worth working around. Treat the shoppable tag as a distribution channel, not as your storefront.

6

Disclose on every shoppable post and every outside link

US FTC guidance requires a material connection to be disclosed clearly and conspicuously, and it applies to a TikTok Shop commission exactly as it applies to an Amazon link in your bio. In short-form video that means a disclosure that is visible and audible early rather than buried in a caption behind hashtags, and it means the same treatment on LIVE. TikTok own Creator Code of Conduct feeds into the standing rating that gates your posting capacity, so on this platform disclosure protects your income as well as keeping you compliant.

if it is not a fit

What most TikTok Shop affiliate guides get wrong

Three errors run through nearly every page ranking for this program, and each one changes a real decision. The first is the follower requirement. Guide after guide opens with a flat 5,000 followers, and TikTok own creator eligibility page states 1,000 for affiliate creators, with 5,000 appearing separately as the point at which a pilot creator graduates to full marketplace access. A creator with 2,000 followers reading those guides concludes they are locked out of a program they qualify for today. That is a straightforward factual error with an expensive consequence, and it is repeated confidently enough that even TikTok own numbers get argued with. The second is the posting caps. We found published figures claiming pilot creators can post 10 shoppable videos per day. The official Affiliate Creator Pilot Program page states 3 shoppable videos per day and 3 LIVE selling streams per week, dropping to 3 videos per week and 1 LIVE per week for Extended Pilot creators after a policy violation. If you plan a content calendar around the wrong number you will spend a fortnight confused about why posts will not tag. The third, and the one that matters most for anyone reading this site, is the framing of what the program can sell for you. TikTok Shop is a physical goods marketplace. Its own Prohibited Products Policy states that virtual or digital products are prohibited unless a seller is approved under the Virtual Goods category, which is reported to be invite-only, with recurring auto-billing subscriptions reported as not permitted at all. That is not a gap that better product research fixes. If your audience asks which AI tool, which editing software, which analytics platform to pay for, the native shelf has no answer and the commission model, a one-time percentage of a single physical order, does not fit a subscription that renews for years. This is the same structural limit we found on YouTube Shopping and on Instagram native product tagging, and it is why our own position is narrow rather than competitive. If you review makeup, kitchen gear or gadgets, the TikTok Shop affiliate program is probably the best monetization available to you and nothing here should talk you out of it. Favly exists for the shelf none of these platforms stock: the software and AI subscriptions people ask creators about, where a referral can pay every month the customer keeps paying rather than once when a box ships.

side by side

TikTok Shop Affiliate Program and Favly, honestly compared.

The comparison below is not Favly against TikTok Shop, which would be a strange argument to make: they solve different problems and most creators should use both. It is what the native shoppable shelf structurally cannot do, set against a storefront built for the recommendations it excludes.

Capability Favly TikTok Shop Affiliate Program Notes
Carries AI tools, SaaS and software × TikTok Shop Prohibited Products Policy states virtual or digital products are prohibited unless approved under the invite-only Virtual Goods category, so the software a tech creator is asked about cannot be tagged
Pays recurring commission on subscriptions × Commission is a one-time percentage of a single order, calculated as revenue minus refunds. Recurring auto-billing subscriptions are reported as not permitted on the platform at all
No follower minimum × TikTok publishes 1,000 followers as the affiliate creator minimum and caps you at 3 shoppable videos per day until you reach 5,000 and graduate from the pilot
Recommendations stay findable after the video scrolls past × A shoppable tag lives inside one post. A viewer who remembers your recommendation three weeks later has to find that specific video again
Commission paid within days of the sale Partial × TikTok pays about 15 days after delivery, extending to match the seller settlement period, which can be delivery plus 31 days or more. Affiliate programs generally hold funds through the return window
In-app checkout with near zero friction × This is genuinely TikTok advantage and nothing outside the app matches it. The viewer never leaves the feed, which is why conversion on shoppable video beats an outbound link by a wide margin
Algorithmic distribution of shoppable content × TikTok actively distributes shoppable posts to people who buy, so the platform is finding buyers for you. No external storefront has an equivalent discovery engine
Deep physical product catalog × Beauty, home, kitchen, apparel and gadgets are covered in depth by sellers competing for creators. If that is what you review, use the native program

faq

Questions creators ask about TikTok Shop Affiliate Program.

How many followers do you need for TikTok Shop affiliate?

TikTok own creator eligibility page states that affiliate creators need at least 1,000 followers, along with being 18 or over, based in the United States, and having no prior record of having e-commerce permissions revoked. The widely quoted 5,000 figure is the threshold for graduating out of the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program into full marketplace access, not the requirement to join. Between 1,000 and 5,000 followers you can earn commission with posting caps.

How do I become a TikTok Shop affiliate?

Confirm you meet the four official gates: 1,000 followers, 18 or over, US based, and no prior e-commerce permission revocation. Apply through the affiliate creator route in the TikTok app, which binds your existing account rather than creating a new one. Set up the separate commission account with your tax information, because earnings cannot be withdrawn without it. Under 5,000 followers you will be placed in the pilot program, which is the intended path rather than a rejection.

What is the TikTok Shop Affiliate Creator Pilot Program?

It is the entry tier for creators who have not yet reached 5,000 followers, and it lets you promote and earn immediately with limits. TikTok states the caps as 3 shoppable videos per day and 3 LIVE selling streams per week. Creators moved to the Extended Pilot after a policy violation are cut to 3 shoppable videos and 1 shoppable LIVE per week. You graduate after at least 30 days by holding 5,000 followers, a Creator Health Rating of at least 176 points, and completing one qualifying task.

What commission does TikTok Shop affiliate pay?

The rate is set by the seller on each product rather than by TikTok, which is why the same category can pay 8% on one item and 28% on another. Reported ranges put the ceiling at 80% and typical everyday categories at 10% to 20%, with an effective US average reported around 13%. TikTok calculates the payable amount as revenue minus refunds multiplied by the rate, on the price the customer actually paid after discounts.

When does TikTok Shop pay affiliate commission?

TikTok states that for orders created after 15 April 2025, commission is typically paid on the 15th day after the order is delivered. That timeline is tied to the seller settlement period, so a seller settling at delivery plus 31 days pays you 31 days after delivery. Any dispute, refund or return request must be resolved first. A partial refund reduces your commission proportionally and a full refund reduces it to zero.

Can you do affiliate marketing on TikTok without TikTok Shop?

Yes, and it is the only route for anything the shop does not stock. Ordinary affiliate links from Amazon Associates, Impact, PartnerStack or a brand direct program work fine alongside the native program, they carry no follower minimum, and nothing in TikTok terms restricts them. The trade is friction: a viewer has to leave the feed and tap through your bio destination rather than checking out in the app, so conversion is lower and the destination page has to do real work.

Can you sell software or subscriptions through TikTok Shop?

Generally no. The TikTok Shop Prohibited Products Policy states that virtual or digital products are prohibited unless the seller is approved for sale under the Virtual Goods category, and access to that category is reported to be invite-only. Recurring auto-billing subscriptions are reported as not permitted. In practice that means software, AI tools, courses and digital subscriptions cannot be tagged as shoppable products by an ordinary creator, whatever your follower count.

Is the TikTok Shop affiliate program worth it?

For creators reviewing physical products it is one of the strongest monetization routes available, because checkout happens without the viewer leaving the app and TikTok actively distributes shoppable content to people who buy. For creators whose audience asks about software, AI tools or anything sold as a subscription, the program cannot carry the recommendation at all, so the honest answer is that it is worth joining for what it covers and useless for what it does not.

What is a Creator Health Rating and why does 176 points matter?

It is TikTok internal standing score for creators inside TikTok Shop, and 176 points is the official minimum you must hold to graduate from the Affiliate Creator Pilot Program to full marketplace access. It reflects conduct on shoppable content: policy compliance, accuracy of product claims, disclosure and complaint history. A policy violation can move you into the Extended Pilot, which cuts posting capacity from 3 shoppable videos per day to 3 per week.

What is the difference between Open and Targeted Collaboration?

Open Collaboration means any eligible creator can find a product in the marketplace and promote it at the seller default rate without asking permission. Targeted Collaboration means a seller has invited you specifically and can offer a custom rate, which is where the higher percentages tend to sit. Sellers find you through the performance attached to your existing shoppable content, so early videos posted at ordinary rates function as your track record.
