Awin affiliate program: commission rates, fees and payouts, and how Awin affiliate marketing works on the Awin affiliate network after ShareASale
Almost every page written about joining Awin spends its first paragraph on the $5 charge, and almost none of them mention the setting that decides how often you actually get paid. The deposit is refundable and you get it back with your first payment. The payment threshold is not refundable, it is a default sitting in your account at more than twice the minimum, and nobody tells you to change it. This page separates what Awin publishes about publisher terms from what reviewers report, so you can see which numbers are binding before you apply.
The short answer
The Awin affiliate program charges a refundable $5 deposit to apply and then pays commission twice a month, on the 1st and the 15th, once your balance clears your payment threshold. Awin sets no commission rate of its own, because every advertiser on the network sets its own percentage and its own cookie window. The number that quietly costs publishers the most is the threshold: the minimum you are allowed to set is $20, but the default Awin applies if you never change it is $50. Awin absorbed ShareASale and that platform closed on 6 October 2025, which is why old ShareASale logins no longer work.

Awin affiliate program terms, in one table.
Everything marked OFFICIAL below was read on an Awin-owned page in September 2026, on awin.com, help.awin.com or the Awin Partner Success Center. Everything marked REPORTED is what third-party reviewers state and Awin does not confirm in public. The distinction matters here more than on most networks, because the commission figures circulating for Awin are all third-party averages.
| What you want to know | The answer | Source and detail |
|---|---|---|
| Cost to apply | $5 refundable deposit | OFFICIAL. Awin requires a small card payment to proceed with the application, quoted as GBP 5 on its UK compliance page and charged as $5 in the US. It is credited to your publisher account on approval and reimbursed when you reach your first payment threshold |
| Refund if you are rejected | Yes, on request | OFFICIAL. Awin states rejected applicants can request the deposit back to the card, but it is not refunded automatically. You have to contact the compliance team |
| Why the deposit exists | Identity and fraud control | OFFICIAL. Awin gives two reasons: a card issuer has already verified your identity, and requiring a payment deters people opening multiple accounts |
| Who sets the commission rate | The advertiser, not Awin | OFFICIAL. Awin is a network. Each brand inside it publishes its own rate and cookie duration, and both can change without Awin being involved |
| The 2% to 10% range you keep reading | A third-party average | REPORTED. Quoted by review sites to describe typical product programs. It is not a rate Awin offers or guarantees, and rates outside it exist in both directions |
| Minimum payment threshold you can set | $20 | OFFICIAL. GBP 20, EUR 20 or $20, or the equivalent in other currencies. This is the floor, not the setting you start on |
| Default threshold if you never change it | $50 | OFFICIAL. Awin applies 50 GBP, EUR, USD, CHF, AUD or BRL by default, 100 CAD or PLN, and 500 SEK or NOK. Most publishers never open the setting |
| Where to change it | Account, then Payment Details, then Bank Details | OFFICIAL. You can adjust the threshold at any time from inside the platform |
| How often Awin pays | Twice a month by default | OFFICIAL. The 1st covers commission validated up to the 15th of the previous month. The 15th covers commission through the end of the previous month. You can switch to once a month |
| When the money lands | Next working day, then 3 to 5 days | OFFICIAL. Awin releases on the next working day and states the transfer can take 3 to 5 days to clear into a publisher bank account |
| If you miss the threshold | Balance rolls over | OFFICIAL. Your balance must reach the threshold by the 15th or the last day of the month. Nothing is lost, it simply waits for the next cycle |
| Why some advertisers pay faster | The traffic light status | OFFICIAL. Awin scores advertisers green, amber or red on creditworthiness. Green advertisers support accelerated payments, so two sales made the same day can be paid weeks apart |
| Application review | Manual, target 24 hours | OFFICIAL. Awin states each application is reviewed individually and manually, cross-referenced against third-party tools, and processed within 24 hours unless submitted over a weekend or bank holiday |
| Follower or traffic minimum | None published | Awin asks for your URLs, sites and social pages and how you promote. It does not publish a follower count or a traffic floor |
| Brands on the network | 30,000+ | OFFICIAL. Stated on the Awin publishers page for the US market |
| What happened to ShareASale | Closed 6 October 2025 | OFFICIAL. Awin upgraded ShareASale into the Awin platform, bringing together more than 9,500 advertisers and 250,000 active publishers. From March 2025 new merchants and publishers launched on Awin only |
| Publisher tools included | Link Builder, Product Search, Offers, Storefronts, MasterTag | OFFICIAL. Listed on the Awin publishers page, along with a mobile app for managing partnerships and payments |
| Markets | 19 country markets including the US | OFFICIAL. Awin lists Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Nordics, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden, the UK and the US |
■ the number nobody checks
The $5 is not the fee that costs you. The $50 default is.
Work the arithmetic on the threshold and the deposit stops looking important
Take a creator earning $30 a month in validated Awin commission, which is a realistic first year. On the default $50 threshold, month one ends below the line and rolls over. Month two clears $60 and pays. Month three rolls over again. That creator is paid six times a year with an average wait of about six weeks per payment. Move the same account to the $20 minimum, which takes two clicks in Account, then Payment Details, then Bank Details, and every month clears on the first available cycle. Same earnings, same network, twelve payments instead of six. The $5 deposit is a one-off you get back. The threshold is a permanent setting that decides your cash flow, and it is the one Awin does not prompt you about.
The traffic light is the reason two identical sales pay weeks apart
Awin scores every advertiser green, amber or red based on creditworthiness, and green advertisers support accelerated payments. This is unusual honesty for a network and it is worth using. If you are choosing between two similar programs in the same category, the status is a live variable in how fast you see the money, and it sits alongside the commission rate rather than behind it. A slightly lower rate from a green advertiser can reach your account a full cycle earlier than a higher rate from an amber one. Nothing in the standard comparison tables captures this.
Awin sets no rates, so researching the Awin commission rate is researching the wrong thing
Awin handles tracking, validation, invoicing and payment. It takes its margin on the advertiser side. What you earn is decided by the brand: the percentage, the cookie window, whether new customers pay more than returning ones, and whether a sale is approved at all. The 2% to 10% band quoted in most reviews is a description of typical retail programs across the network, not an entitlement. Two publishers on Awin in the same vertical can be earning very different effective rates purely because different advertisers accepted them, which makes approval breadth a bigger lever than rate. If you would rather not apply program by program at all, the contrast worth reading is Mavely commission rates, where the model is open access instead of per-brand approval.
The ShareASale merge changed who you are dealing with, not just where you log in
ShareASale ran as a separate platform for over twenty years and closed on 6 October 2025. Awin states the upgrade brought more than 9,500 advertisers and 250,000 active publishers onto one platform, and that from March 2025 new merchants and publishers could only launch on Awin. Practically, this means three things for a creator. Old ShareASale reporting and historical data are gone unless someone exported them before the closure. Programs you knew by their ShareASale merchant ID now sit inside the Awin advertiser directory. And a network that was historically strong with small and mid-size US merchants is now inside one that is strongest in the UK and Europe, so the catalog you see is broader and the competition for approval is wider.
■ joining
How to join the Awin affiliate program, in four steps.
Apply and pay the $5 deposit
Awin asks for accurate and comprehensive information, including every URL, website and social page you promote on. The deposit is charged during sign up by card. Give the real list rather than your best-performing channel only, because the review cross-references what you submit against third-party tools and a thin application is the common reason for a decline.
Wait for the manual review
Awin states applications are reviewed individually and manually and processed within 24 hours, excluding weekends and bank holidays. If you are approved the $5 lands in your publisher account. If you are declined you can ask compliance to refund it to your card, which does not happen automatically.
Change your payment threshold before you do anything else
This is the step no guide includes. Go to Account, then Payment Details, then Bank Details, and set the threshold to $20 rather than leaving the $50 default in place. It takes less time than reading this sentence and it roughly doubles how often a small account gets paid.
Apply to advertiser programs and place the links
You join each brand separately and each one approves or declines on its own criteria. Once approved you build links with Link Builder or Product Search. Awin will track and pay them. Where a reader encounters them is the part the network does not cover, which is the gap this page ends on.
■ if it is not a fit
What the network gives you, and what it leaves to you
An established Awin publisher is holding tracked links from a spread of separate advertiser programs, each approved at a different time, each with its own rate, cookie window and traffic light status. Awin reports on all of it accurately. What it does not do is give any of those links a home. Link Builder produces a URL. Product Search produces a URL. Even the Awin Storefronts tool, which is the closest thing on the network to a published page, only holds advertisers that are inside Awin, so the moment you also earn from a program on another network or a direct brand deal, your recommendations are split across places your audience cannot see at once. That is the actual daily problem: not tracking, which is solved, but the absence of one page a reader can visit to see what you recommend and why.

■ side by side
Awin and Favly do different jobs.
This is not a verdict on which is better, because they are not substitutes. Awin tracks and pays affiliate commission. Favly is the page your recommendations live on, whichever network happens to be paying for them.
| Capability | Favly | Awin | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sets commission rates | × | × | Neither does. The advertiser sets the rate in both cases |
| Tracks and pays affiliate commission | × | This is the network job and Awin does it well. Favly does not process commission | |
| Free to apply | × | Awin takes a $5 deposit at application, refunded on your first payment | |
| Requires approval per brand | × | You apply to each advertiser separately and some will decline you | |
| A published page for your recommendations | Awin advertisers only | Awin Storefronts exists but only carries brands inside the Awin network | |
| Holds links from every program you are in | × | Awin reports on Awin. A creator storefront holds Awin, Amazon, direct deals and software programs on one page | |
| Keeps the reason you recommended it attached | × | A tracked URL carries no context. A storefront entry carries the note explaining why it is there | |
| Payout threshold | Not applicable | $20 minimum, $50 default | Favly does not hold your commission, so there is nothing to threshold |
| Carries AI and SaaS programs | Limited | Awin is weighted to retail, travel and finance. Recurring software commission mostly sits on other networks |
■ faq
Questions publishers ask about the Awin affiliate program.
Is the Awin affiliate program free to join?
No, not quite. Awin charges a small deposit to submit an application, quoted as GBP 5 on its UK pages and charged as $5 in the US. It is refundable: on approval it is credited to your publisher account and reimbursed once you reach your first payment threshold, and if you are rejected you can ask the compliance team to return it to your card. Awin says the charge exists because card issuers verify identity and because it deters people opening multiple accounts.
What is the Awin affiliate commission rate?
There is no Awin commission rate. Awin is a network, and every advertiser inside it sets its own percentage and cookie duration. The 2% to 10% figure that appears in most Awin reviews is a third-party description of typical retail programs, not a rate Awin publishes or guarantees. What you earn depends entirely on which advertisers approve you and what those brands have chosen to pay.
What is the Awin payment threshold?
The minimum you are allowed to set is $20, or GBP 20 or EUR 20. The default Awin applies if you never change it is higher: 50 GBP, EUR, USD, CHF, AUD or BRL, 100 CAD or PLN, and 500 SEK or NOK. Your balance has to reach the threshold by the 15th or the last day of the month, and if it does not, it rolls over. You can change the setting at any time under Account, then Payment Details, then Bank Details.
How often does Awin pay affiliates?
Twice a month by default. The payment on the 1st covers commission validated up to the 15th of the previous month, and the payment on the 15th covers commission validated through the end of the previous month. Awin releases funds on the next working day and states the transfer can take 3 to 5 days to clear into your bank account. You can switch to a single monthly payment if you prefer.
How long does Awin take to approve a publisher?
Awin states applications are reviewed individually and manually and processed within 24 hours, unless you apply over a weekend or a bank holiday. The review cross-references what you submit against a number of parameters and third-party tools, which is why the application asks for every URL, website and social page you promote on rather than just one.
What are the Awin affiliate program requirements?
Awin does not publish a follower count or a traffic minimum. What it requires is a legitimate presence you can document, an accurate and complete list of the sites and social pages you promote on, a clear description of your promotional methods, tax and payment details, and the $5 deposit. Acceptance is at the network discretion first, and then separately at the discretion of each advertiser whose program you apply to.
What happened to ShareASale, and do I need a new account?
ShareASale was upgraded into Awin and the ShareASale platform closed on 6 October 2025. Awin states the merge brought together more than 9,500 advertisers and 250,000 active publishers, and that from March 2025 new merchants and publishers could only launch on Awin. If you had a ShareASale account it was migrated rather than deleted, but historical reports and data that were not exported before the closure are gone, and the login you used no longer works.
Why did my Awin commission take longer than someone else on the same network?
Most often because of the advertiser traffic light. Awin grades advertisers green, amber or red on creditworthiness, and green advertisers support accelerated payments while others move at the standard pace. Two sales made on the same day from two different brands can therefore reach you a cycle apart. The other common cause is the threshold: a balance that misses the cut-off simply rolls into the next payment run.
Is Awin worth it for a small creator?
It depends on whether the brands your audience buys from are on it. Awin is strongest in retail, travel and finance, and strongest geographically in the UK and Europe, though the ShareASale merge broadened its US catalog considerably. If two or three brands you already recommend run their program there, the $5 and the application are trivial. If none of them do, joining a large network for its own sake produces an empty dashboard, and your effort is better spent on programs you can actually place in front of readers.
Awin or Rakuten Advertising: which pays a creator faster?
Awin, clearly, on published terms. Awin pays twice a month against a threshold you can set as low as $20, and money can reach you within weeks of a sale being validated. Rakuten Advertising documents a chain of invoicing and advertiser authorization that puts roughly 60 to 90 days between the sale and the deposit, against a $50 threshold. Rakuten is free to join and Awin is not, so the trade is a refundable $5 against a quarter of waiting.
▲ go deeper
Payment terms are the part of a network that you cannot negotiate and cannot see until you are inside, which is why they are worth comparing before you commit effort rather than after. The Rakuten affiliate program is the sharpest contrast, because it inverts the trade on this page: free to join, then a 60 to 90 day wait. ShopMy commission rates and LTK commission rates cover the creator-first platforms, where the rates are narrower but the payout calendar is much shorter.
The structural weakness of every retail network, Awin included, is that a sale pays once. A software or AI program can pay every month the customer stays subscribed, which turns one recommendation into a balance that grows on its own. Recurring affiliate programs covers which categories actually pay renewals and which quietly stop at the first invoice.
Holding approved links from many advertisers across more than one network creates an organizational problem long before it creates an income problem. Affiliate link management covers keeping tracked links current when programs change rates, retire products or move networks, which is exactly what the ShareASale closure forced on thousands of publishers at once.
If you are still deciding where to concentrate rather than which network to join, affiliate marketing platforms compares the networks, the creator-first platforms and the software programs side by side, and what happened to ShareASale covers the migration itself in more detail.
